What is the difference between the Mini dredge pump and cheaper engine driven self priming trash pumps? First of all, a self priming pump alone is not very effective in removing sediment. The agitator water jet system is necessary to deliver kinetic energy (energy of motion) to the sediment to take it from a solid state rendering it a fluid slurry.
Nov 12, 2012· Re: Pond dredging with a trash pump My grandfather dredged a bay out (many years ago) with a 3" trash pump that had a 16hp Wisconsin engine on it. He said that it worked well, but a 3" trash pump with a smaller motor that he rented a few years back didnt work at all, he spent more time cleaning it out than he did pumping.

May 17, 2008· The trash pump I have only dewaters. I couldn't see it removing silt. It pumps about 150 gpms. Just my opinion but it would see even if a trash pump removed silt in the area of the bottom it was laying on it would seem it would be localized and you'd have to keep moving it.

There are two types of pumps. Semi trash pumps and high pressure pumps. (HP often referred to as clear water.) Semi trash pumps will move large amounts of water with not too much PSI. Most 2" semi trash pumps are rated about 35 - 42 psi. Rocks, sand and gravel, up to about 1/4" - 1/2" can pass through these based on the pump.
Semi-trash pumps are typically used to pump clear or slightly muddy and sandy water. The largest items any of our semi-trash pumps can pass is about 5/8 of an inch. You'll want to use a hose with a strainer so the hose doesn't get clogged with any items too big to pass through.
Jul 18, 2009· The problem with trash pumps is they don't have the lift or GPM as some of the other high end pumps/engines. I've seen many of these trash pumps and they never seem to have the lift when you're down 5+ foot underwater. With the pump you mentioned you might be able to run a small 2-inch, maybe 3-inch, but it could be iffy. Hope this helps, Rob ...

Question regarding trash pumps - CR4 Discussion Thread. Jan 12, 2008· From my experiences, I don't think a "Trash Pump" by itself would remove the silt I believe the slit needs to be stirred up and then fed into the trash pump, though it sounds to me as if what you want to do is dredge at the stream mouths so the pond stays a pond instead of becoming a swamp
Can you use a trash pump with a dredge? ... I do recommend using a suction nozzle with a trash pump. You don't get as much suction as with a high pressure pump. With a suction nozzle, the distance the water for the dredge is under suction is very short (less than a foot) vs a power jet nozzle may have water under suction for 20 ft or more. ...
